Pac Forest
Church in Packwood where Pastor Angus and crew are on vacation. We had worship led by a recording artist. It was great.
Then lunch at home and out the door to Pac Forest to walk the "pack" for an hour and a half.
Off to Eatonville for the Lions club fair. They were auctioning off some stuff while Rose and I visited the booths. Polly guarded the car.

So, the funeral is at Hauganville on Sunday.
60 they say, I was 55 when I got whacked (by the Ford) and it's all been a blur since then
so it all doesn't count, I'm still 55

Decided no camp Muir on Sunday. Church and a bitty hike with friends (and dogs) instead.
Cooler today (Monday), brrr.
Rosie visited the dentist today with a sensitive tooth. Under a crown. The dentist thinks it's allergies.

Mt Beljica
been a while
Rose and I celebrated our 20th by hiking up to Summit lake and the plateau above it where we were married 20 years ago, July 7th 1990.
It was a beautiful day, a great hike and a great occasion. I'm so happy Rose married me.
Our friends the Farbers, accompanied us and prepared a great dinner afterwards.
Life is good.

Drizzled all day, put a crimp in my dirt hucking plan. phoo
Well, summer should start tomorrow with a nice long sunny streak.

Rose took Polly to the vet this a.m. And I will start shoveling dirt.
A little damp out but not raining and summer is coming tomorrow with a big streak of sunshine and warmer temps.
It's our 20th on Wednesday and we are contemplating a hike to summit lake. Gotta see how much snow is on the trail.

headed home today, checkout at 11:00
I am now going to work on figuring out how to make the morning cup of fake coffee into a "balanced" meal. Protein, fat and carbs. bwa ha ha.
Going to try 6 meals a day, all balanced with high quality protein source and omega 3s and 6s in the fat source and complex carbs yet vegan and raw as much as possible. With that criteria, I suspect not much variety.

another hike in
Mt Townsend trail. Good one and we saw the first big black bear I have ever seen. Glad he/she was in a meadow far below us. woof
Oh yeah, Polly was with us but she missed it, fortunately.
And, not finding the true trail head, we started 1.2 miles below that trail head on an alternate trail head. bonus, there is/was a real neat lake that we would have missed had we found the right road and trail head.
Some big snow patches on the trail and it was/is steep.
About 10 miles round trip, 2,500+ ft gain. Weather started out overcast, that put us in the clouds on the way to the trail. It cleared and we had a great view of Mt Baker, Glacier Peak and Mt Rainier.

Beautiful day
What a great day today. Yesterday I unloaded the mulch, oofda. Also, the windowsill was replaced over the kitchen sink by the cabinet guys and they are going to price out an additional cabinet for the trash smasher. That would cut our garbage to one can a month.
Speaking of savings, I'm liking the generic cellular at Walmart more all the time. Verizons network at a discount, ya.
The bright side, I did see an eagle flying overhead. Walked Polly at the park, 3 loops.
Oh, this morning a chipmunk was skulking around on the deck in front. Eagle bait.

so much for that plan
So, the compost is still in the truck and it is still raining bigtime. The wetter the compost, the heavier. Oh well.
It's nice and dry and warm in here as long as we have electricity.
I'm looking at ditching Verizon and getting StraighTalk from Walmart, it is still the Verizon network but a lot cheaper. You have to buy a phone/s from them but they are cheap. We can save $50 to $60 a month and get more minutes.

WoW
It did rain cats and dogs, big cats and big dogs, woof. Polly and I did the park and managed to dodge it.
Time to shovel the wet compost out of the old truck, think some more about the fence post and give Polly a shower with me. Gotta love a walk in shower when you have to share.
Maybe a snack first.

drizzly morning
Weather soothsayer calls for chance of showers. Well at least it's cool enough to work outside when I pump myself up with enough enthusiasm to confabulate a worthwhile project.
ooh ooh, got one, my old truck is full of compost and I need to pick a spot and clear the truck bed for the next haul. oofda

so now it's cold
brrr. Well actually it's just cloudy, I'm cold because I just drank my fish oil smoothy.
That's right, I said it. We put fish oil, among other things, in our morning smoothy. No bat entrails yet though but if things get tough, who knows.
The fish oil is scent and taste free and full of omega 3 and 6 in a superior assimilation form. So, better than flax oil.

78 degrees, what a beautiful day. Hiked thru Pac Forest then a tiny bit of yard work. Spread some top soil over the propane tank. Ready for the county inspection.
72 and Sunny
It is going to be 72 today, woo hoo.
Going hiking to Pac Forest.
Up on the Muir snow field during the weekday, fewer people.
Still gotta figure the fence post out, phoo.

Hooking Netflix to the Wii was really a no brainier. It did it itself as in the Wii spewed a password that I entered on the computer to the Netflix site and bam, it was done.

Ah, Wii night
We received the Wii disk in the mail today. After I figure out the incantation, we will have well over 10,000 videos available for online streaming for $9.00 a month.
No wonder peeps are canceling cable and satellite.
But out here in the sticks, there is no broadcast tv so no satellite, no news. But at least we can go "basic".
On to the voodoo.

bucky
The local hummingbird isn't real bright. I call him bucky, as in buck toothed hillbilly.
Yesterday I had the garage door open and sure enough, there he was, in the garage. A month or two ago, he was in the truck when Rose was cleaning it out and she had to work to get him out.
Bucky is flitting around the windows today, looking for a way in.

Man o Man
Man o man, rain o rain. Big rain.
Found deer bedded down in a little grassy spot.
Rigged the Wii on Rose's big tv, downloaded the photo software and put in her SD card. It is a fast photo browser/slideshow. Must be the fast SD chips I buy, the SandDisk Extreme.
Hung a curtain rod and am messing around with Netflix so that when the DVD arrives tomorrow, we to, or should I say Wii too, will be able to watch Netflix over the big screen for $8.99 a month.
And I re arranged where our telephone is and hooked up a couple of more.

tuff
I didn't realize how exotic square galvalume is. I just can't find it locally (1 3/4"). And the shipping is awful ($35 for an 8' stick) and expensive ($24+).
Maybe it'll be a 2"x2" ripped (1 1/2"x1 3/4")or a 2"2" with two pieces of wood lathe.
ooh, ooh. Gotta look at galvanized pipe with slight less than 2" O.D.
Still raining here. Rose put out some lettuce and an old apple, 5 deer showed up to get it.

more rain-time for fence
Some big rain then little rain then no rain then repeat.
Gotta invent a means of putting up fence post without digging holes, My ground is rock of varying size with a tiny bit of sand. We grow lichen here in the old river bed.
Thinking making paver type concrete gizzies with some means of joining with post (2" square steel tubing) strong enough for job but using 1 sack of concrete per location only.
I have a non flat top so will have to build a mold and pour it upside down, one at a time. 20 in all. First I need to settle on attachment (to post), then build a mold to test.

b'day bash
Rose's birthday bash was a winner. 12 grandchildren enjoyed real cake (and the rest of us too). 8 children and friends and other relatives, we filled the room.
The Pastor of the church in Packwood picked up on the birthday on Facebook and Rose was serenaded in church.
Then late last night, a final serenade. Mountain lions mating (or fighting). Then more, the coyotes barking (really a hideous sound) at the Mt lions. And of course Polly telling them all off.

Now I know
If anyone was wondering, coyotes do bark. One was calling Polly out this morning, no doubt in retaliation from the good barking at they received yesterday.
First the Bigfoot, now the coyotes. Polly is making an enemies list fast.
The coyotes know where we live though. I may have to invest in some coyote be gone (some shotgun shells for my rifle-don't want to kill them).

beautiful day, but
First we hiked up to Pebble Creek or actually 100 ft above it at 7,300 ft elevation from the parking lot at Paradise (Mt Rainier), elevation 5,400 ft.
Then we too Polly for a 3 mile walk up the Westside Road in the park.
We had been run out of the park in Ashford. The Sasquatches were holding a grudge from the good barking Polly gave them.
We were hoping for a Bigfoot free zone in the park. Polly, however picked up on something on our walk. Time will tell.

bigfoot
Did I mention the 7,000 bigfoot sightings in the Upper Nisqually area. A lot of them where we hike.
I didn't want to alarm anyone BUT, they are getting pesky and really bugging Polly.
We started the morning off with a coyote and went for a walk later in the day. A nice simple walk, until the sasquatch started in on Polly and she went off on them with a good barking.
You know how those bigfoot hold a grudge though. Now we have payback to anticipate around every bush and tree. While some are looking for Easter eggs, we have to look for Sasquatches.

Rose is taking me snow shoeing with her and Bronca today. 1st time in 4+ years, should be interesting. Supposed to get up in the high 40s in Ashford, so mid 40s at Longmire and low 40s in Paradise (our destination-Reflection Lakes).

raining now
So far we have had coyotes (yesterday afternoon), elk, deer and an assortmant of birds visiting today and no people. Yup, we are out in the country.
There have been cougars sighted East a couple hundred yards, North a couple of hundred yards and South a couple hundred yards (two fighting). West, our property goes for a quarter of a mile.
Thinking some kind of sidearm for noise. But what if noise doesn't do it?
Just too much cougar food here.

aha !!
I usually stick my hand in the loop at the end on the leash and Polly usually pulls. Putting pressure where?? Right on the ol ulner nerve at the heel of the hand where it joins the wrist.
So this is why I have numb fingers. Good hike though.
Rose did skiing with Judy, all others dropped out. They encountered a silver fox that shadowed them for a while. $200 fine for feeding foxes, he didn't get any.

the fingers
the plan
Going snowshoeing tomorrow. Our friends the Farbers )John and Sharon) are coming up. Also going is Bronka Sundstrom. Just what I needed, an 85 year old woman to kick snow in my face as I struggle to make a comeback. Judy Scavone and another local or two are going as well. Weather forecast is great, we will have fun.
numb fingers
Something new. About 4 days ago, my pinky finger and ring finger on my right hand started going numb. Now the pinky is indeed numb and the half of the ring finger next to it (lengthwise) is also numb. Ons side of a finger, weird, eh?
Seeing the podiatrist this afternoon, maybe he has some knowledge retained from school about the nerves in the fingers. This would be the ulner nerve, no carpel involvement.
My suspicion is the backpack across the shoulder is compressing the nerve.
It is supposed to be raining but the sun is shining in Ashford as we wait for the drywall contractor to recut the attic access door to allow egress for the electrical contractor to remedy the attic space fan that has decided it needs to run 24-7 rather than run off the timer or thermostat as it originally did.

March 1st
Getting spring fever, time to plant something BUT we are about 2,000 elevation so the last frost will be much later that in the flatlands.
Might just be better to go to Naches (Eastern Wa) and buy veggies and fruit.
Our water filter spews 350 gallons of water a night backwashing. It would be a shame not to use that in some kind of watering system. And we have acreage. It's just those deer and elk that are the vermin that would eat/trample whatever couldn't be fenced and fencing is hard to do with river rock to get through for fence post.

ticked again
Polly and I (Ted) went on a hike at Elbe Forest (about 4 miles and new to us), when we got back, Rose spotted a tick on Polly's face (unattached) and grabbed it off and squished it. Stinkin ticks.
Looks like a full moo, beautiful night here in the woods.

finally
Rose got bounced from the jury pool today, yay.
Polly and I got in a short walk with 2 or 3 rain showers, hope we shrink.
And of course, dug some more river rock and sand to fill my propane tank hole, foo.

And again
Rose is off to jury duty again, phoo.
Raining in Ashford, boo. 36F, brrr
Poly and I are currently hunkered down and trying to figure out how to get to the program files on the old Win XP laptop (like a fool, I reloaded the OS).

more Valentines
Rose had salmon and garlic potaetos, I had Yak burger and garlic potaetos (self defence) and a beer. Then we split blackberry pie ala mode.
We'll put the halos back on now.

Love is a thoughtful gift.

Stinkin Elk
When we came home last night, Polly was really going off about something in the NE corner of our yard. This morning we could see what, 4 elk had decided to bed down. Around subrise, they rose and mosyied down the road.

boot
The cast is off and I have a boot/splint combo thingy.
Tubing has been moved back a week due to concerns about snow depth.
Rose saw a fox in the parking lot up at paradise.
7 Elk crossed the road in front of Polly and I walking.
The coyote has been back.

treadmill
A mile and a half treadmilling this morning followed up by 1/4 mile around the new Ashford park. It is beautiful in Ashford today, warm and sunny - 50 degrees.
Dodging critters
Two, count 'em, two separate elk encounters on the road trip home from the Farber's Hallelujah Acres food encounter last night. Elk #1, in the road, elk # 2, caught in the act of stepping out onto the road. Gotta get a cow catcher.

treadmill
Got in a mile yesterday with little soreness. Going for 2 miles tomorrow, maybe part of it on the path around our new county park in Ashford.
Phase 2 for the park did not get funding. It includes an amphitheatre.
coyote
We had a coyote walk thru yesterday, about 100 ft out. They certainly look more attractive with their heavy winter coats. Guess I should have taken a picture.

Raining
Raining big time. Oh well, I'm in yet another cast so stuck in the chair again. Rain and wind promised for tomorrow as well causing Rose to cancel (probably) her planned snowshoe trip to Pebble Creek (start at 5,400 ft, go to 7,800 ft).

new church
Since we are going in to Puyallup to the Farber's "event" (kickoff for the Hallelujah Acres weight loss program), we decided to forego our 4Square church going (2 hr round trip travel time) and try the local Ashford Baptist church (5 miles away).

off hiking
Rose scheduled a hike at Packforest that started at ten. Must have been great weather there because it was/is great here. Packforest is next to Eatonville. I stayed home with Polly. I still have a cast.

We braved the route to Packwood FourSquare Church and were blessed with an awesome service. Pastor Angus has also come into his own as aa speaker.

friends
Our best friends, the Farbers (John & Sharon), came over for New Years eve day and New Years day. Fun as Rose and Sharon joined a few of Rose's friends for snow shoeing and John and I watched some videos.
