new dirt

Moved dirt yesterday, about 6 yds (that's about 9,000 to 12,000 lbs for you flatlanders). More today when my body loosens up.

And take little Polly for her stroll as her mommy is going to Aleah, Eli and Ethans house.

done

headed home today, checkout at 11:00

I am now going to work on figuring out how to make the morning cup of fake coffee into a "balanced" meal. Protein, fat and carbs. bwa ha ha.

Going to try 6 meals a day, all balanced with high quality protein source and omega 3s and 6s in the fat source and complex carbs yet vegan and raw as much as possible. With that criteria, I suspect not much variety.

another hike in

Mt Townsend trail. Good one and we saw the first big black bear I have ever seen. Glad he/she was in a meadow far below us. woof

Oh yeah, Polly was with us but she missed it, fortunately.

And, not finding the true trail head, we started 1.2 miles below that trail head on an alternate trail head. bonus, there is/was a real neat lake that we would have missed had we found the right road and trail head.

Some big snow patches on the trail and it was/is steep.

About 10 miles round trip, 2,500+ ft gain. Weather started out overcast, that put us in the clouds on the way to the trail. It cleared and we had a great view of Mt Baker, Glacier Peak and Mt Rainier.

back to the 5er

Made it, gotta wonder why a mine there? Closed in the 50's.

Tubal Cane

Headed to Tubal Cane mine hike, wish us luck, 10 mile rt, 2,000 ft gain, offda

hmmm

Looking at my post, I don't see one saying we were headed to Sequim for a week in the 5th wheel.

Well, we did and are. Had to get out of the rain for a bit. Yes, Polly is with us.

Life is good.

still sequiming

ah, who wudda thunk retired people would enjoy vacations. Sure nice and pleasant weather here

Went to Port Townsend (Ft Warden), walked the beach by the Wilson Pt lighthouse and watched the mist (foggy stuff) ebb and flow, dissipate and reform

Listening to an audio book when driving and watching 24 on Netflix in the evening

Beautiful day

What a great day today. Yesterday I unloaded the mulch, oofda. Also, the windowsill was replaced over the kitchen sink by the cabinet guys and they are going to price out an additional cabinet for the trash smasher. That would cut our garbage to one can a month.

Speaking of savings, I'm liking the generic cellular at Walmart more all the time. Verizons network at a discount, ya.

The bright side, I did see an eagle flying overhead. Walked Polly at the park, 3 loops.

Oh, this morning a chipmunk was skulking around on the deck in front. Eagle bait.

so much for that plan

So, the compost is still in the truck and it is still raining bigtime. The wetter the compost, the heavier. Oh well.

It's nice and dry and warm in here as long as we have electricity.

I'm looking at ditching Verizon and getting StraighTalk from Walmart, it is still the Verizon network but a lot cheaper. You have to buy a phone/s from them but they are cheap. We can save $50 to $60 a month and get more minutes.

WoW

It did rain cats and dogs, big cats and big dogs, woof. Polly and I did the park and managed to dodge it.

Time to shovel the wet compost out of the old truck, think some more about the fence post and give Polly a shower with me. Gotta love a walk in shower when you have to share.

Maybe a snack first.

drizzly morning

Weather soothsayer calls for chance of showers. Well at least it's cool enough to work outside when I pump myself up with enough enthusiasm to confabulate a worthwhile project.

ooh ooh, got one, my old truck is full of compost and I need to pick a spot and clear the truck bed for the next haul. oofda

so now it's cold

brrr. Well actually it's just cloudy, I'm cold because I just drank my fish oil smoothy.

That's right, I said it. We put fish oil, among other things, in our morning smoothy. No bat entrails yet though but if things get tough, who knows.

The fish oil is scent and taste free and full of omega 3 and 6 in a superior assimilation form. So, better than flax oil.

whew

78 degrees, what a beautiful day. Hiked thru Pac Forest then a tiny bit of yard work. Spread some top soil over the propane tank. Ready for the county inspection.

72 and Sunny

It is going to be 72 today, woo hoo.

Going hiking to Pac Forest.

Up on the Muir snow field during the weekday, fewer people.

Still gotta figure the fence post out, phoo.

Wii

Hooking Netflix to the Wii was really a no brainier. It did it itself as in the Wii spewed a password that I entered on the computer to the Netflix site and bam, it was done.

Highly recommended.

Ah, Wii night

We received the Wii disk in the mail today. After I figure out the incantation, we will have well over 10,000 videos available for online streaming for $9.00 a month.

No wonder peeps are canceling cable and satellite.

But out here in the sticks, there is no broadcast tv so no satellite, no news. But at least we can go "basic".

On to the voodoo.

bucky

The local hummingbird isn't real bright. I call him bucky, as in buck toothed hillbilly.

Yesterday I had the garage door open and sure enough, there he was, in the garage. A month or two ago, he was in the truck when Rose was cleaning it out and she had to work to get him out.

Bucky is flitting around the windows today, looking for a way in.

Man o Man

Man o man, rain o rain. Big rain.

Found deer bedded down in a little grassy spot.

Rigged the Wii on Rose's big tv, downloaded the photo software and put in her SD card. It is a fast photo browser/slideshow. Must be the fast SD chips I buy, the SandDisk Extreme.

Hung a curtain rod and am messing around with Netflix so that when the DVD arrives tomorrow, we to, or should I say Wii too, will be able to watch Netflix over the big screen for $8.99 a month.

And I re arranged where our telephone is and hooked up a couple of more.

tuff

I didn't realize how exotic square galvalume is. I just can't find it locally (1 3/4"). And the shipping is awful ($35 for an 8' stick) and expensive ($24+).

Maybe it'll be a 2"x2" ripped (1 1/2"x1 3/4")or a 2"2" with two pieces of wood lathe.

ooh, ooh. Gotta look at galvanized pipe with slight less than 2" O.D.

Still raining here. Rose put out some lettuce and an old apple, 5 deer showed up to get it.

more rain-time for fence

Some big rain then little rain then no rain then repeat.

Gotta invent a means of putting up fence post without digging holes, My ground is rock of varying size with a tiny bit of sand. We grow lichen here in the old river bed.

Thinking making paver type concrete gizzies with some means of joining with post (2" square steel tubing) strong enough for job but using 1 sack of concrete per location only.

I have a non flat top so will have to build a mold and pour it upside down, one at a time. 20 in all. First I need to settle on attachment (to post), then build a mold to test.

yechhh

Cleaning up debris and gunky stuff. My cardboard is like mud and stinky. The picking up is like stretching though so it's good for me and free too.

And

And a special thanks to my sister Sue who graciously let us park our rig at her house and picked us up from the Airport.

Maybe I should be more hip and give "big shout" out.

baaack

Back from Sierra Vista (thank you Kristina $ Greg & Jacob and Zachary). It was an awesome adventure, especially the rock formations. Pictures to follow as we unravel ourselves from the absence.

The grass seed we planted prior to leaving is about 2 inches high now.
